Start with the failure
Exterior restoration addresses a weathered lens face. Replacement addresses an assembly that is cracked, leaking, structurally broken, electrically damaged, or no longer serviceable.
Restoration candidates
A working assembly with yellowing, haze, oxidation, light pitting, or a failed outer coating may be suitable, depending on prior work and remaining condition.
When replacement fits
