Headlight Restoration Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions people ask before restoring cloudy, yellow, hazy, peeling, or previously worked-on headlights. Open a question below, then follow the deeper service, process, pricing, or aftercare link when you need more detail.

Can my headlights be restored?

Can yellow, cloudy, or hazy headlights be restored?

Often, when the visible damage is oxidation, worn coating, or weathering on the outside of a functioning headlight. The starting condition still needs to be assessed.

How can I tell whether the haze is outside or moisture is inside?

Outside weathering may look yellow, dull, rough, chalky, or like peeling clear coat. Droplets, water lines, or condensation behind the surface point to an internal seal, vent, housing, or damage problem.

Can severe oxidation, pitting, or scratches be removed?

Some surface weathering can be refined, but deep pitting, scratches, cracks, delamination, and internal damage may remain or make replacement the better option.

Can a failed DIY restoration or peeling clear coat be redone?

Usually, yes. We first check uneven sanding, leftover coating, scratches, heat damage, cracks, and moisture so we can explain what another restoration can realistically improve.

Is restoration better than replacing the headlights?

Restoration may make sense when the headlights work and the damage is on the outside surface. Replacement or another repair is usually the better path for cracks, failed seals, broken tabs, internal moisture, reflectors, bulbs, wiring, or structural damage. Read the restoration versus replacement guide.

Do you repair cracks, tabs, seals, bulbs, wiring, or condensation?

No. HB Headlight Restoration focuses on suitable outside-surface weathering. Mechanical, electrical, structural, seal, reflector, and internal moisture problems need another repair or replacement.

Price, services, and process

How much does headlight restoration cost?

The current service range is shown above. The confirmed quote depends on the visible condition, previous work, access, number of headlights, and selected service. See all pricing and quote factors.

Do both headlights have to be restored?

Not automatically. We assess one or both and the quote states what is included. Headlights often weather similarly, so photos of both help even when one looks worse.

Which services do you offer?

Vapor Restoration and Ceramic Protection are available for suitable headlights. The visible condition, previous work, and service fit are reviewed first.

How long does the appointment take?

There is no honest fixed time for every vehicle. Headlight size, shape, damage, previous coating or DIY work, access, and the selected service affect the estimate, which is confirmed before scheduling.

Do you wet-sand and polish the headlights?

Yes. Our preparation uses a cleaning solution followed by wet-sanding with 600, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 grit. The selected finish is then completed with Vapor Restoration or buffing, polishing, and Ceramic Protection. See the full restoration process.

Protection, lifespan, and aftercare

How long will restored headlights stay clear?

Our no-fading protection warranty lasts 18 to 36 months, depending on the finish selected. If the headlights fade during the covered period, we will restore them again at no charge.

Does ceramic protection make the result permanent?

No. Ceramic Protection is available for suitable headlights, but no exterior finish makes polycarbonate permanently immune to sun, weather, washing, road exposure, or previous damage.

What should I avoid after service?

Follow the curing and washing guidance provided for the agreed service. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh compounds, aggressive degreasers, and close pressure-washer contact unless the specific aftercare instructions say otherwise. See the UV protection and aftercare guide.

Quotes and appointments

What photos should I send?

Send a front view showing both headlights, one close-up of each cloudy, yellow, peeling, or damaged area, and a side angle that shows surface texture and reflections in daylight.

What vehicle details are needed?

Include the vehicle year, make, model, city, ZIP code, whether one or both headlights need attention, and anything you know about previous restoration or coating.

Are photos required to request a quote?

No. Photos are optional in the secure form, but they usually make the initial assessment more useful. You can also call if uploading is not convenient.

Does submitting the form book the appointment?

No. The form creates a private quote request. Service fit, price, location, and appointment timing are confirmed afterward.
